The twentieth annual Eurovision Song Contest broadcast from Stockholm International Fairs in Stockholm, Sweden.A record nineteen countries took part and the Netherlands took the title for the last time to date with Teach In singing "Ding Dinge Dong" in English.Once again intelligence reports singled out the contest as being a possible terrorist target, this time by the Red Army Faction, and security was very tight. In fact the anticipated attack took place on the West German embassy in Stockholm a month later. The Portuguese took the opportunity to celebrate the success of the revolution after their 1974 performance was used as a signal to alert rebel soldiers to begin a coup against the regime. According to one report the Portuguese contestant had to be talked out of performing in a military uniform and carrying a gun.Not all Swedish people agreed with hosting the contest and what started as a protest against the amount of money spent on the event soon developed into an outcry against commercial music altogether, leading to a protest festival being staged in another part of the city on the night of the show. The scoring system introduced this year is the one which still persists today with juries awarding twelve points to their favourite followed by ten, eight, seven, six and so forth for their ten favourite songs.
