Indian summer

A rugby field seems an unusual place for Bill Oddie to go bird-watching, but as the sun sets a massive flock of ring-necked parakeets turns up to roost in the trees on the edge of the pitch. The first ones appeared in London about 30 years ago. They didn't fly over from India, they were captive birds. No one knows whether they escaped or were deliberately released and it was thought that the British winter weather would kill them off. However, they are tough birds, used to living in the cold mountainous areas of India. A sound of India in the middle of London.
