Clumsy landings

Wedge-tailed shearwaters are designed for a life out at sea, so finding somewhere to nest during the breeding season is a tricky business. To avoid predators, they must return to Heron Island on the Great Barrier Reef after dark. The parents take turns to look after their chick whilst the other finds food. A parent may travel vast distances and take several days to return with their catch.
