John Hawkins traded slaves for commodities such as fish, which were then brought back to England to be sold. Hawkins followed a trade route from Britain to West Africa and the Caribbean, known as the triangular trade route. The cities of Bristol, London and Liverpool were where 60% of the British slave trade was based.
