Thomas Fairchild - speciation and evolution
Thomas Fairchild was the first to artificially cross two plant species and produce a new hybrid plant. This brought him into conflict with the teachings of the day, which considered all life to be God鈥檚 creation.
Botanist, Timothy Walker, discusses Darwin's ideas about natural selection and the evolution of plants. He uses this to explain why the hybrid produced by Thomas Fairchild was sterile.
