Fern Britton Meets... Frank Bruno

Frank Bruno has been Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World. During his rise to the top, he became one of Britain's best loved sportsmen and made a name for himself as a national character, appearing in panto and a variety of television shows. His double act with boxing commentator Harry Carpenter gave birth to the catchphrase "you know what I mean, Harry" and he once appeared as Shakespeare's Juliet to Lenny Henry's Romeo. But, after he quit the ring, Frank faced the biggest fight of his life - against mental illness. Fern Britton talks to Frank about his battle against bipolar and the comfort that religion has been for him both inside and outside the sporting arena. His mother even used to arrange prayers to be said in church over his boxing shorts to keep him safe.
