The Summer Exhibitions 2013

Now in its 245th year, the Royal Academy鈥檚 Summer Exhibition is one of the most prestigious events on the arts calendar and gives non-professional artists the chance to show work alongside that by well-known names. Still lives, portraits and landscapes by amateur artists will be shown next to work by Tracey Emin and Grayson Perry. In a cheeky retort, for the past 23 years a gallery in Waterloo has been showing work by artists rejected by the Royal Academy. And at the Hayward Gallery, The Alternative Guide to the Universe presents the work of a diverse range of artists from the fringes of the art scene.
