A song about the impact of the Highland Clearances

An old woman sings a sad song about migration in Victorian Scotland. She sings of Highlanders being forced to leave their homes and move to big cities to find work in the factories. The song also tells of lowland country dwellers moving to cities to escape famine, poverty and strife. As the population increased, parish schools struggled to cope with the rising numbers of children until 1872 when education was improved.
