Two gentlemen reformers celebrate their recent successes in Parliament to introduce laws which prevent women and children working in the coal mines. They believe they have the best interests of the vulnerable at heart and that they are creating a better, safer world. Angry Annie, a young mine worker, disagrees. She explains to the gentlemen that her family need the wages she and her brother can earn.

The two gentlemen inform Annie that her little brother can now go to school to better himself. Annie is not impressed, pointing out that education won鈥檛 feed the family. Neither side agree, the reformers believe the changes are for the good of the workers, whilst Annie is concerned with the need to buy food. The sketch ends with Annie shocking the two gentlemen by suggesting votes for women.
