Robyn Davidson

Robyn Davison was born on a cattle property in Queensland, Australia.

In the mid-1970s she moved to Alice Springs to prepare herself for a 1,700 mile journey which would last 9 months.

She headed to the west coast with only camels for company for most of the trip.

The story of that journey was published first in National Geographic Magazine in 1978, then by the London Sunday Times the following year. It was National Geographic's most popular cover for a number of years.

In 1981 Robyn wrote the book 'Tracks', which was subsequently translated into eighteen languages and become a bestseller in the UK, Australia, & all over the world.

It has now been released as a film directed by John Curran and starring Mia Wasikowska.

Jim Davis caught up with Robyn a short time ago and asked her to describe her life before this adventure began.
