Ukraine and Cambodia

Fergal Keane describes what it's like being held at gunpoint at a Sloviansk checkpoint; Alice Cuddy finds women in Phnom Penh remembering forced marriage under the Khmer Rouge.

In eastern Ukraine, Fergal Keane finds there are gunmen in control at the ever-multiplying checkpoints, and describes what it was like to be shot at, then briefly held at gunpoint himself, near Sloviansk recently.

In Phnom Penh, Alice Cuddy meets a group of women commemmorating one of the lesser-known abuses of the Khmer Rouge regime: its forced marriage campaign, which in the 1970s coerced as many as a quarter of a million women into unions they did not want. Some have since found happiness in second marrages and built their own families - but the mental scars of the era are still there.
