Brazil, Nepal, Chile, Georgia and India

Katie Watson on Brazil's drugs ghetto; Alex Preston on Nepalese jade; Ed Stocker on Chilean food; Tara Isabella Burton in Tbilisi; Anu Anand tries to go to the pool in Delhi.

In Brazil it is reckoned a million people are on crack cocaine. It is a highly processed form of the drug which is very addictive. A million users adds up to a lot of prolonged and in many cases inescapable misery. And as Katie Watson reports, it means there is a lot of money involved as well.

Prized gems and precious stones are the stuff of romantic stories and exploitation, beauty and hard business. Alex Preston goes in serach of the jade smugglers in Burma.

Some of the world鈥檚 most expensive, fashionable restaurants now offer not so much refined haute cuisine as local food and traditional recipes - even foraged food. Ed Stocker has been experiencing such fare in Chile but with a twist. The restaurant he visited in Santiago is well away from the city centre and it is affordable too.

In most big cities there will be somewhere an elderly person surrounded by animals. In London there are men who go to public parks armed with food for pigeons which flutter around them hoping for a hand out. And, in Tbilisi, Georgia, Tara Isabella Burton meets the woman who looks after that city's strays.

Feel like a swim? Fancy nipping down to the pool to get some exercise and to cool off? Sounds great! But if that urge comes upon you in Delhi then you might want to settle for a shower. Anu Anand can tell us why.
