Catalonia and Sweden

Niall O'Gallagher meets Catalans celebrating their national day with an eye on the referendum in Scotland and Maddy Savage in Sweden wonders if the elections will cause a shake-up

Niall O'Gallagher joins the crowds in Barcelona celebrating Catalan national day with a riot of colour, flags, and slogans. And some of those who favour independence from Spain, are very interested in the referendum campaign in Niall's native Scotland.

Maddy Savage in Stockholm watches party leaders during a pre-election TV debate, and finds that there is great diversity in terms of age and gender among those leaders. Not enough for her Swedish flatmate, though, who would prefer more women among them. But not everyone wants more diversity, the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats party is doing well in the polls, attracting around one in ten voters, much to the disquiet of the mainstream parties. Will there be a shake-up in Swedish politics after Sunday's elections?
