A youth group in Manchester has drawn up a controversial plans for Britain's first school for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender pupils. LGBT Youth North West wants school to cater for children aged 13 and older who have been bullied and would like the idea to be copied across the country. According to Amelia Lee, the group's strategic director, the idea is based on the Harvey Milk School in New York, named after the American politician and gay rights campaigner. Ms Lee said: "Teachers in mainstream schools have problems in tackling issues like homophobic bullying and coming out. Unfortunately, schools can be one of the last bastions of homophobia."
