Lammy: serial under-reporting of crime in the UK

A Labour MP says a lack of action by police and courts has led to people not reporting crimes.

David Lammy spoke of a "de facto decriminalisation" as he discussed shoplifting, burglary and cycle thefts statistics, and how magistrates have little discretion over sentencing.

He told Jo Coburn that "broken windows matter" and that: 鈥淚f you let what鈥檚 called the known as low-level crime happen, it will affect all crime, and that鈥檚 what鈥檚 people experience, particularly in the poorest areas of our country.鈥
