Adonis: Opinion in Scotland is volatile

Labour peer Andrew Adonis was asked about Lord Ashcroft polls suggesting Labour could lose many Scottish seats to the SNP in May.

The shadow infrastructure minister and former transport secretary was one of the senior Labour figures in coalition negotiations with the Lib Dems after the 2010 election, and Jo Coburn asked if he would reprise the role if there was a hung parliament in May.

Lord Adonis said a large number of SNP gains would mean "the whole issue of the future of the union would again be at the centre of the political debate".

Asked about criticism from former Labour cabinet ministers, he said: "I have never known the Labour Party more united."
