Clinical trials of new vaccine could protect millions of the most vulnerable under 5s. Professor Brian Greenwood (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) run the study.

Around half a million people died from from malaria in 2013 - though that figure could be higher and 3.2 billion people are in danger of contracting the mosquito borne disease.

Children are the most vulnerable to catching malaria and now, final clinical trials of a malaria vaccine -- the first to reach this stage -- suggest it could help protect millions of under fives, against the disease.

Data shows the drug protected about one-third of the children vaccinated. Professor Brian Greenwood from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is the author of the study. He explained why it's so difficult to tackle malaria.
