In the early hours of 26th December 2004 the third largest earthquake ever recorded struck the Indian Ocean.
The result was a tsunami which travelled at 800 km per hour.

The result was a tsunami which travelled at 800 km per hour. As it reached the shores the waves grew to over 15 metres in height.
A quarter of a million people died and two million were made homeless in countries across Southeast Asia and beyond.
