'I changed minds when I was in the ring' says Adams

Olympic, European and Commonwealth boxing champion Nicola Adams has told Ö÷²¥´óÐã Extra Time about what it was like to be compete in such a traditionally male world.

Adams explained that when she was younger her coaches kept her away from the negativity surrounding women competing in the sport.

"I always liked the fact that I changed minds when I was in the ring boxing," she said, adding that after one trainer saw her box, he changed his mind about letting young women train with him.

"People tend to be afraid of things that have never been done before," she said.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided to allow women's boxing to join the Olympic schedule in 2009.
