Can China sustain its rapid growth and maintain environmental and social stability?

Unprecedented economic growth is fast reshaping China's fortunes, rapidly changing the face of the country. Some have done well from this - but others haven't. Nearly 600 cities have unhealthy air and official figures confirm widening public protest. Can the Chinese model maintain a balanced and sustainable path of rapid economic development, protect the environment and maintain social stability all at the same time? The broadcast debate on these issues was itself unheralded, taking place in China without restriction; the host was joined by a leading economist, two leading environmental activists, and a leading executive from the tyre maker, Goodier.
