Differences in Health

Manish Verma investigates the health differences in Leicestershire.

A new report on the health of people in Leicester is out and its not great reading.

Some things we already knew - like the oral health and obesity levels of our children is amongst the worst in the country. But Leicester City Council's health profile also reveals some other quite stark findings. For example, just under half of those in the City are overweight or obese (46%). One in ten drink more than the recommended amount, and expectancy amongst adults is lower than the national average.

Well this latest report also exposes the huge differences in health across various parts of Leicester. If you live in Western Park, Clarendon Park, South Knighton or Evington for instance, you should expect to live in better health for longer. But if you're in Braunstone, the City Centre, New Parks, St Matthews, St Peters, Saffron or Spinney Hill then you'll be in good health for a shorter time - more than 10 years shorter in fact!

Well 主播大秀 Radio Leicester's Manish Verma has been to speak to people in a very unique area of Leicester. He's been to Letchworth Road, which begins in affluent Western Park and stretches into a deprived part of New Parks.
