William Eggleston is often referred to as the father of colour photography. His richly hued images of everyday life in the 1960s American South have inspired leading film-makers including David Lynch and Sofia Coppola. Dan Damon spoke to Phillip Prodger, director of photography at London's National Portrait Gallery which is featuring a retrospective of his work, William Eggleston Portraits. All images by William Eggleston 漏 Eggleston Artistic Trust.
