Stray dog joined extreme runner during China race

Dion Leonard was taking part in the 4Deserts ultramarathon when he met the stray he named Gobi.

He first noticed her by his side on the second day of the six day run and thought she wouldn't "last the whole day", but somehow she ran the whole 25 miles before staying with him at the overnight camp.

On the days she couldn't run due to the heat, the race organisers took Gobi by car to the finish line where she'd wait for Dion who says it was, "just amazing" to have her run to greet him.

He says that it was during that moment he realised "this is something else than just a little dog following me".

Despite missing two days of the race, Gobi completed 125 kilometres of the 250-kilometer race and was awarded with a medal after the final leg.

Dion has now raised enough money through a crowd funding appeal to cover the medical and quarantine costs to have Gobi brought to the UK to live with him.
