Myanmar's leader, Aung Sang Suu Kyi is in Beijing for talks with the leaders of China. Top of the agenda is likely to be the controversial Myitsone Dam which was put on hold by the former military regime 4 years ago. The project is led by Chinese investors and would flood an area the size of Singapore and could generate 30 billion kW hours annually.

There is concern in Australia over a bid by Chinese and Hong Kong based companies to buy a controlling stake in Ausgrid, a state owned electricity distribution network. In a preliminary decision the deal was blocked on national security grounds last week. China has warned against what it calls protectionism and has said it could affect future investment.

The release of the Panama papers showed how some of the biggest names in the accounting world regularly set up complex structures that enable their customers to pay little or no tax. Now the British Government is looking at introducing huge fines for those who assist companies or wealthy individuals with what it calls 鈥渁ggressive tax avoidance鈥�.
