Estonia鈥檚 e-Residents
Ruth Alexander applies to become a virtual citizen of Estonia.
Estonia is one of the smallest countries in Europe, with only 1.3 million citizens. But it is hoping to become much bigger 鈥� by attracting what it calls e-residents. A scheme was started two years ago to give citizens of any nation the opportunity to set up Estonian bank accounts and businesses 鈥� and to develop a digital identity which can be managed from anywhere. Ruth Alexander examines how it works, and who benefits.
