Half a dozen British soldiers are set to attempt a 1,100 mile trek across the Antarctic in memory of explorer Henry Worsley. Henry died after suffering organ failure in January 2016 just 30 miles from the finish line.

Sergeant Major Lou Rudd is a close friend of Henry鈥檚 and is leading the expedition. He told 5 live Drive:

鈥淲hen we get to the point where Henry ground to a halt we鈥檙e going to conduct a memorial service.鈥�

鈥淭hen hopefully we鈥檒l go and finish the journey on his behalf.鈥�

The expedition is due to last 80 days, taking the men across some of the toughest terrain on earth where temperatures drop as low as minus 50掳C and winds can hit 90 mph. Twice as many people (12) have walked on the Moon than have crossed the Antarctic by foot.
