It's set to cost 拢56billion and will be one of the biggest and most expensive projects Britain has ever taken on. Now - two years overdue - the Government's finally announced where it's intending to create the northern section of the controversial high-speed rail line, HS2.

As expected, the track will split north of Birmingham, with lines going to Manchester and Leeds. On the eastern leg, the route has been refined to move to the east of Measham, avoiding the most significant impacts on local manufacturing businesses and development sites as well as going around instead of tunnel under East Midlands Airport.
