Is Donald Trump Good for Journalism?

President Trump has made no secret of his contempt for news organizations. It seems like bad news for mainstream media but might the opposite be true?

President Trump has made no secret of his contempt for news organizations, stating that the media are "among the world's most dishonest people". He has described The New York Times as "failing", The Wall Street Journal as 鈥渁 pile of garbage鈥 and CNN as a 鈥渢errible organization鈥 responsible for 鈥渇ake news". The 主播大秀? 鈥淭here鈥檚 another beauty.鈥 The President has made statements and assertions which are false. He uses Twitter to speak directly to the American people. His combative press secretary Sean Spicer said he plans to 鈥渉old the press accountable鈥. All this seems like bad news for what many Trump supporters call 鈥 derisively 鈥 the 鈥渕ainstream media鈥. But might the opposite be true? Might Donald Trump, in fact, be good for journalism? That鈥檚 the question on The Inquiry this week.
