‘Life for a woman in Syria is very difficult, there's no safety or stability.’

To mark International Women’s Day 2017, we hear a snapshot of women’s lives around the world as they tell us what’s on their minds. Hema is 24-years-old and lives in Aleppo. Before the war her family lived together and she attended university with her siblings. Since then, she has lost her younger brother to a tank bomb, her family are now dispersed and she works at one of Syria’s relief clinics in Aleppo where they treat up to seventy patients a day. She says, 'Nothing will make me happier than the end of the war in Syria, when we can rebuild our country like it was before, or make it better and stronger.’ Hema's words have been translated and are spoken by an interpreter.
