Why the Ibrahim Prize has no 2017 winner

The British-Sudanese billionaire Mo Ibrahim, who made his fortune in mobile telecoms, offers an annual prize for good governance in Africa.

The Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in Leadership in Africa is now in its 10th year and is given to former democratically-elected heads of state that can prove outstanding leadership. The trouble is, for the past two years no-one has been awarded the $5m prize, because no-one can be found to fit the criteria.

The 主播大秀鈥檚 Lerato Mbele sat down with Mr Ibrahim and asked him why the annual prize that carries his name is not always given out.
