‘The Wonder on the Humber’

The Humber Bridge is one of the great wonders of British engineering. When it opened in 1981 it was the longest suspension bridge in the world.

But few people have experienced the bridge from above by walking along its aerial walkway.

The bridge is more than a mile long and took nearly nine years to build. The view from the top of its super structure is breathtaking.

The walkway connects either side of the huge towers and is normally used by bridge engineers. Public access isn’t normally allowed but Paul Rose was given special permission to walk the walkway.

Watch the video of Paul Rose talking to one of the original engineers, Douglas Strachan, and walking across the Humber Bridge’s aerial walkway.
