Reasons To Be Cheerful With David Byrne

Lauren catches up with David Byrne ahead of the release of his new solo album American Utopia, which is "uplifting musically" but takes a "cold look at how we are and what we're doing."

Fresh from a free event at London's Roundhouse, titled Reasons To Be Cheerful, David reckons that whilst a song can't necessarily change your mind, music can provide solidarity, and a sense of community with people who aren't even in the same room.

David also talks about finding hope and optimism in unusual places, like the Color Guard Championships, where he found diversity, a positive acceptance of body image, grassroots creativity, and he also first collaborated with Merril Garbus of Tune-Yards.

And we hear from 7-year-old Byrne impersonator Stanley, via his mum, who may well be making an appearance on the Oxford leg of David's tour!
