Bryan Ferry reminisces about the steps which led to the release of Roxy Music's debut LP.

He recalls carrying around a demo which eventually caught the attention of leading music writer Richard Williams. And the subsequent article in the Melody Maker correctly predicted an "interesting future" for the band.

Less than six months later, in January 1972, Roxy Music recorded their first Peel Session for Radio 1 (the first of three Peel sessions that year: he was "a great supporter of the band"). In the 12 months that followed, the band would record and release their first album, and perform their first single (Virginia Plain) on Top of the Pops - dressed impeccably throughout!

Bryan reflects that it was "good luck as much as anything else" that brought together a "collage of different musical styles" and "unlikely suspects: namely Brian Eno, Andy Mackay, Phil Manzanera, Paul Thompson and Graham Simpson.
