Who is Sammus?
Mary Anne is joined by NY producer, rapper, activist and PhD student Sammus as part of the '6 Music Loves New York' season.
Enongo Lumumba-Kasongo, who makes music under the name of Sammus, was recently cited as Merrill Garbus of Tune-Yards' 'one to watch' for 2018.
This morning, we are on a quest to find out more about Sammus' music, beginning with how a childhood in Ithaca, spending eight years teaching maths and science, and the world of gaming, have all shaped her sound.
Sammus' latest record 'Pieces in Space' is out now via Don Giovanni Records.
