Cannabis Oil: 'My son needs to live'

Alfie's family want him to be treated with cannabis oil, which is illegal in the UK.

The mother of a 6-year-old boy with a form of epilepsy has told 5 live about her campaign for him to be treated with medical cannabis oil.

Alfie Dingley suffers up to 30 seizures a day but was prescribed medical cannabis oil in the Netherlands. It’s not available in the UK.

His family say Alfie showed significant improvement, but they can’t afford to stay in the Netherlands and returned home last week.

Speaking to 5 live Breakfast, Hannah Deacon said: "This is an urgent campaign. He is a wonderful child and I can't lose him... that is not an option. He needs to live, and he has a right to live."

The Ö÷²¥´óÐã Office said: "We recognise that people with chronic pain and debilitating illnesses are looking to alleviate their symptoms. However, it is important that medicines are thoroughly tested to ensure they meet rigorous standards before being placed on the market, so that doctors and patients are assured of their efficacy, quality and safety."
