The Girls With The Yellow Hands

A new piece of choral music, inspired by our campaign to honour Britain鈥檚 munitions workers, has been performed in public for the first time this weekend - to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
听
'The Girls With The Yellow Hands' was written by local musician and choir leader Jon Watson after hearing the stories of the women who worked in the munitions factory at Rotherwas during the first and second world wars.
听
It was the highlight of The Gathering Wave Choir's performance, which is organised by The Music Pool and takes place every three years.
听

Poppy Song

Today marks the centenary of the end of World War I and many of our local musicians have been inspired to write moving songs about those we've lost.
听
One such artist is Evesham's Devon Mayson, who's worked with the Poppy Appeal for a number of years.
听
The former Miss England contestant once famously wore a poppy dress on the catwalk and has been a fundraising ambassador since leaving university.
听
Tonight we hear two tracks she's performed for them - including a live version of a song she's currently producing in the studio.
听

We catch up with Evesham singer/songwriter Jeremy Johnson.
听
During his 20s, Jeremy pursued an international career as a geoscientist - working, living and travelling across four continents.
听
But it wasn't until his late 20s that his development as a songwriter began to flourish.
听
Chronicling his varied and individual experiences, Jeremy completed his first album of work in the months leading up to his 30th birthday.
听
The response to 'The King and the Thief' laid the foundation for Jeremy's belief that his childhood dream of becoming a singer-songwriter could be realised.
听
He's since given up the day job and now performs all over the world, including a听four month European tour in summer 2018.
听

We've described them before as one of the hottest bands in Worcestershire - and every year they come out to make noise than the rockets at the Bromsgrove fireworks display!
听
We catch up with Trigger - which features husband and wife Daniel and Sally Trigger on vocals - who put in an explosive performance, last weekend.
听
And the guy who's really on fire is songwriter Daniel Trigger - who says it's all raising money for Primrose Hospice.

We鈥檝e handpicked some of our favourite acts to join us to switch on Worcester鈥檚 Christmas Lights!

Not only is this a fantastic opportunity for the musicians we鈥檝e selected (who didn鈥檛 even know they were being considered for this incredible gig!), but also a chance for Worcester to see the amazing talent we have right here on our doorstep. As always, we also hope this will also inspire other musicians to share their music with us.
听
The event, this year, moves from the Guildhall to the newly-revamped Cathedral Square under the statue of Sir Edward Elgar. The recording and switch-on takes place on Thursday, 22 November with these festive sessions being broadcast throughout December.
