With unrestricted access to NSW Ambulance’s Sydney operations, Ambulance Australia goes behind the scenes of Australia’s busiest ambulance service, in Australia’s biggest city. The series follows each step of an emergency response, from the Control Centre staff who answer the triple zero call to the dispatchers managing the high-pressure logistics of getting crews to the patients to the front-line Paramedics who treat patient's.

One of the toughest job of all emergency services, staff are required to make split second decisions that can mean the difference between life and death. NSW Ambulance receive more than 3000 calls each day … one call every 28 seconds, from the most life threatening to emotionally challenging situations. Ambulance Australia takes a courageous and honest look at the everyday demands on call takers, dispatchers and on road paramedics.

The cameras go on the road with paramedics as they race against time through the streets of this huge city to reach the sick and the injured. We follow them as they treat their patients and manage families, friends and bystanders present at the scene. Ambulance Australia showcases the people behind every link in the chain and explores the motivations, pressures and rewards that keep them on the job of saving lives.

From a busy Saturday nights that end badly to workplace accidents the NSW ambulance service deal with all sides of life and need to prepare for a torrent of cases, all with their own unique challenges.

During the series, we follow cases including a tradie whose hand is crushed by a forklift, a driver pinned under the roof of their rolled over ute, Paramedics rush against time to get a heart attack victim to hospital, multiple stabbing incidences, a suspected domestic violence case, the ever-growing issues of mental health, drug overdoses and the huge number of elderly patients requiring attention.
