Should the assisted dying laws be reformed?

A former justice secretary wants to reform the assisted dying law, so that families don't face charges if they help their loved ones take their life when suffering a severe illness

Lord Falconer, a Labour peer, said the law was a "total pig", in a debate with Conservative MP Bernard Jenkin and journalist Anne McElvoy.

As the Politics Live debate was getting underway, presenter Andrew Neil told viewers that 80-year-old Geoff Whaley, who had motor neurone disease had died.

He and his wife had been questioned under police caution when officers learned of his plan to take his own life in a Swiss clinic.
