The Nine can reveal Scottish scientists have launched a groundbreaking new investigation into whether our DNA can make us more likely to die from sepsis. The condition kills around a thousand people every week in the UK.

Researchers at Edinburgh University are undertaking the largest study of its kind into the issue and they hope their findings will lead to more effective treatments and will save lives.
