Steam Punk

Do you know what Steam Punk is?
Ìý
It's science fiction/science fantasy that blends technology and designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. At least, that's what Wikipedia tells us!
Ìý
And the scene is growing to such an extent, we've already seen two Steam Punk festivals take place in our area this month.
Ìý
Last weekend was the second-ever Raising Steam at Stoke Prior Sports & Country Club, in Bromsgrove, with two stages of live music in aid of New Futures Nepal.
Ìý
Artists, during the three-day event, included BB Blackdog, Montague Jacques Fromage, Venus de Vilo, Feline & Strange, Ichabod Steam, The Wattingers, Victor & The Bully, Chasing The Dark, The Cogkneys, Miss Von Trapp, Gurdybird, The Retro Clones, Titi Von Tranz and LM Cooke.

Back to school with Ellie Goulding

A Herefordshire school has a suprise visit this week - from a former pupil who's become a global star!
Ìý
Ellie Goulding shot to fame after appearing here on Ö÷²¥´óÐã Introducing and went on to win the Critics Choice award at the Brits.
Ìý
These days she's a Grammy Award winner, writing songs for films and other stars, as well as her own hits.
Ìý
But, this week, she spent time chatting to her old teachers at Lady Hawkins school in Kington - as well as advising Year 11 pupils as they prepare for exams.

Musicians' Masterclass

So how do you cut through in today's noisy society?
Ìý
While many use microphones to get their voices heard, others put pen to paper.
Ìý
But whether you aspire to be the next chart-topping artist or lead a life as a music journalist, the fundamental basics are still the same.
Ìý
In this week's masterclass, we hear from:
Ìý
  • Joseph 'JP' Patterson - Senior Editor of Complex UK and Founder of TRENCH Magazine.
  • Ö÷²¥´óÐã 6 Music and Radio 3 presenter Elizabeth Alker.
  • Anna Codrea-Rado - a freelance writer for the New York Times, the Guardian and Wired.
  • The Independent's music correspondent Roisin O'Connor.
  • Ö÷²¥´óÐã 6 Music presenter Mary Ann Hobbs.

Ö÷²¥´óÐã Music Introducing at the Hay Festival

At Ö÷²¥´óÐã Music Introducing in Hereford & Worcester, we support the very best new music from across the region.
Ìý
Since 2005 we’ve broadcast more than a thousand sessions, helping to showcase some of our area’s most talented musicians.
Ìý
We’ve handpicked some of our favourite acts to join us on stage at Hay.
Ìý
These artists didn’t even know they were being considered – and we hope this inspires people to keep sending in their music, because we really do listen to everything.
Ìý
These sessions will be broadcast throughout June on Ö÷²¥´óÐã Hereford & Worcester on Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 6pm.
