About Mello Festival...

The organisers of the Upton Sunshine Festival moved their secondary festival, Mello, to a new site at Hanley Castle last year from its previous home at Throckmorton Airfield.
Ìý
This year, Goldie Lookin' Chain, EMF and Craig Charles graced the stages - with people travelling from all over Europe to attend.

Mello Festival highlights: Don Letts

Don Letts' reputation has been firmly established in both the film and music world, by a substantial body of work, from the late '70s through to the present day.
Ìý
Don first came to notoriety in the late '70s as the DJ that single-handedly turned a whole generation of punks onto reggae.
Ìý
It was whilst DJing at the first punk club 'The Roxy' in 1977, that Don adopted the punk DIY ethic and began to make his first film 'The Punk Rock Movie'.
Ìý
Shot on Super-8 millimeter film, it is the only documentary on the UK punk scene and features, among many others, The Sex Pistols and The Clash.
Ìý
This documentary led to a period where Don directed more than 300 music videos, for a diverse range of artists, including Bob Marley and Elvis Costello.
Ìý
From the days of Punk Rock to the present, Don has always been drawn towards musical projects.
Ìý
He appeared at Mello Festival, last weekend, at the Severn End Country Estate, in Hanley Castle near Upton.

Mello Festival highlights: EMF

EMF came to prominence at the beginning of the '90s when their first single, 'Unbelievable', reached #3 on the UK Singles Chart and was a #1 hit on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Ìý
Their debut album, Schubert Dip, then went onto become the third-biggest album in the UK.
Ìý
They've been performing at this year's Mello Festival.

Mello Festival highlights: Incognito

British Dance group Incognito formed in 1979 and their debut album, Jazz Funk, was released in 1981.
Ìý
They appeared at the Mello Festival, performing hits including 'Always There' and 'Don't Worry 'Bout A Thing'.

In session

Carmen Lees-Green is a 21-year-old jazz vocalist who studied at Hereford College of Arts.
Ìý
She started songwriting in her early teens after listening to Amy Winehouse records and a chance meeting with Amy's guitarist Robin Banerjee led to them both putting some tracks down on tape.
Ìý
"A breath-taking performance that’ll make you stop in your tracks" - Andrew Marston.

Ö÷²¥´óÐã Music Introducing at the Hay Festival

This month's sessions were recorded in the Ö÷²¥´óÐã tent at this year's Hay Festival.
Ìý
The 2019 festivities featured more than 600 speakers across 11 days - including musicians Billy Bragg, The Gipsy Kings and The Waterboys.
Ìý
According to festival director, Peter Florence, some 270,000 tickets were sold with attendees from over 40 countries, ranging from Afghanistan to Argentina.
Ìý

Elgar Festival

The Elgar Festival, taking place throughout Worcestershire this weekend, is celebrating 100 years of some of his most famous work.
Ìý
It's expanded from a three day to four day event this year to mark this special centenary of his Cello Concerto.
Ìý
Kenneth Woods conducted Cellist Raphael Wllfisch and the English Symphony Orchestra, last night, as they performed together at Worcester Cathedral.

Ellie Goulding at Radio 1's Big Weekend

The Herefordshire musician started singing as part of her drama classes at Lady Hawkins High School, while living in Kington, later performing at Open Mic nights while attending Hereford Sixth Form College - at Doodies (which is no more) on St Owen's Street.
Ìý
And she's Herefordshire's most successful-ever export - having achieved more top 40 records than the Pretenders and Mott The Hoople put together.
Ìý
Over these next couple of weeks, we'll hear tracks from her performance at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Middlesbrough.
