'I don't think of her as my child'

Surrogacy is the process where a woman agrees to bear a child for another parent. They're often associated with celebrity births but are increasingly common in the UK.

The latest figures show there were 368 births from a surrogate last year – but it's thought the actual number is much higher. This is because the intended parents have to apply to the courts to be recognised as the child’s parents, which often doesn’t happen. A UK-wide review of surrogacy laws is underway.

The Nine's Carole Erskine has spoken to one woman whose health meant she couldn't carry a child of her own, and whose life has been transformed by surrogacy.
