Touchdown

An LGBT flight attendant reflects on love, loss & international travel in the 80s and 90s

A former flight attendant looks back on his career in the 1980s and 90s, a time of boom in the airline industry. This was a profession that attracted many gay men, the airlines offering a workplace relatively free of discrimination. But this freedom was soon disrupted by the emergence of the HIV virus and its spread. As a gay man living and working in constant transit, he fought to maintain relationships in the face of overwhelming loss and societal injustice.

Interwoven with the interview testimony, a dramatized voice imagines the struggle to reconcile these wrenching realities. Touching down in various international cities, he calls a partner who remains in London, his messages telling of the abiding desire for connection.
