Over the past few months we have all had to get used to seeing less of the people we care about the most. However, for those with relatives in care homes, that separation has been especially hard to bear.

Dementia charities worry strict visiting rules and the lack of regular family contact has accelerated the decline of many sufferers. Catherine Davis suffers from dementia and has lived in a care home for around a year.

Until earlier this week, her daughter Claire hadn't had face-to-face contact with her mum for five months. She has had to watch her mothers condition deteriorate from afar. Social Affairs Correspondent Chris Clements reports on Catherine's story for the Nine.
