In the West, the Vodou religion is often misrepresented in popular culture and is called 鈥榁oodoo鈥�. It emerged on the island of Haiti 500 years ago when the traditional religions of enslaved West Africans merged with the Catholicism of the French colonialists. Jean Daniel Lafontant is a Vodou priest on Haiti. He describes some of the important elements of his faith.
