Marc Jacobs: Living fearlessly and unapologetically

Marc Jacobs shares the shame that he felt for many years and how he re-wrote the rules, put the shame aside and became one of the world’s most influential fashion designers.

The iconic Michelle Visage sits down for a one-to-one encounter with one of her favourite rule Breakers, Marc Jacobs.

He is one of the most influential fashion designers, Marc first made his name with the ‘Grunge’ collection aged just 29 in 1992, while working for Perry Ellis - credited with launching the grunge look of the 1990s.

But, behind all the Marc Jacobs designs we see there’s a deeper story. There’s a story of a multi-layered person who has always without a doubt created their own path and done things their way. From experimenting with his style as a 9-year-old and embroidering his jeans ad painting his jean jackets, regardless of what was said about him, to now not feeling ashamed of who he is and past decisions he had made.

Over the years he’s used the shame that he was made to feel for several life decisions he’s made - fuel him and propel him to where he wants to be and in this episode he guides us through just how he did this.
