The head of Ukraine's railway has vowed to have trains running to and from the city of Kherson in the next days.

Kherson was the only regional capital to be captured by Russia since the February invasion of Ukraine. The region, along with three others, was proclaimed by President Vladimir Putin to be part of Russia in September. But Kherson was recently liberated by Ukrainian troops.

Alexander Kamyshin is the CEO of state-owned Ukrainian Railways. He told Newsday: 鈥淲e are working on demining and track management鈥�, adding that the system would shortly be operational: 鈥淚t鈥檚 about days, it鈥檚 not about weeks.鈥�
