Tenants face 247% heating bill increase

Massive rise in district heating charges are set to be approved by Leicester City Council.

For around four thousand tenants and leaseholders in Leicester on the District Heating Scheme, which shares hot water and heat on certain council estates, bills are more than doubling in some cases.

The hike in charges are due to recent gas price rises. The City Council's told us it's up to the Tenants and Leaseholder's Forums to notify residents about changes to heating charges but added that estimated average increases of 247 per cent in the heating scheme charges will be lower when meters are installed.

Political Reporter Tim Parker has been speaking to Sabiha Saiyad who lives on the St Peters estate.
