Czech President: “Fatigue of war”

Petr Pavel says Russia “wouldn’t stop with Ukraine” if it prevails in the war.

The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, has told the “the support of Ukraine will naturally fade out” as the war continues and this year may be decisive for the either side in the conflict.

The former Nato army general, now newly-elected Czech president, told HARDtalk’s Stephen Sackur “fatigue of war” could lead to a drop in the support for Ukraine among Western and European allies. This year, he said, could be decisive as “both Russia and Ukraine would most probably try to make a really big offensive”.

President Pavel said if support for Ukraine declined and Russia prevailed in the conflict, Moscow “would take it as a confirmation of the right approach to their foreign and security policies”. “Russia,” he warned, “wouldn't stop with Ukraine”.
