German MP: ā€œI see no possibility of talking to Putinā€

Marie-Agnes Strack Zimmermann, who chairs the German parliamentā€™s influential Defence Committee said that she could see ā€œno possibilityā€ of talking to Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine.

Asked whether she supports proposals to further limit G7 countriesā€™ trade with Russia she said ā€œYes. Absolutely. We have to do itā€¦ Itā€™s a very simple situation. Vladimir Putin hopes that we are not ready for doing this and we have to do it. Even with the economic question ā€“ and itā€™s a huge one.ā€

Referring to German Chancellor Olaf Scholzā€™s use of the word ā€˜Zeitenwendeā€™ to describe a historic shift in German foreign policy brought about the Ukraine invasion, Ms Strack-Zimmermann said ā€œYou have to realise that this zeitenwende, itā€™s a real zeitenwende so we have to change our mind and we have to think about with companies, with CEOs - now we have to do something.ā€
